This coming Wednesday please join Steve Ferrone and guests for the Drumroll Jam at King King in Hollywood. I will be jamming a couple of my tunes as well.... Very sadly we have lost Tony Thompson to Cancer. Tony was one of the worlds great drummers having played with Chic and many others. He played with Power Station and the Duran Duran Album Thank You that I worked on...Sincere condolences to Tony's family. I know he will be greatly missed. I can't believe it. MP3.com is gone today! And it probably has everything to do with the next story... For years the Recording Industry and their poodle the RIAA have been attacking downloaders for a supposed fall in CD sales with headlines like Music Sales Dip; Net Seen As Culprit. Piracy and Theft are destroying their business and teenagers are being charged for enjoying a bit of free music. What is radio? Most everyone I know thinks that the Internet is killing the income of we music creators and will soon be hurting the film business the same way. Would it surprise us to learn that there is no evidence that downloading is the cause of the supposed drop in CD sales? According to George Ziemann in an article published a year ago, the sneaky Record Companies have reduced their CD Shipments to stores by 25 percent: So the record industry cut their inventory (and artist investment) by 25 percent and sales only dropped 4.1 percent, even though the economy is at rock bottom. There were almost 12,000 fewer new releases for the consumer to choose from in 2001 than 1999. The record companies are making more money per release than ever.
