Disneyland in 1956

The NAMM show starts today at the Anaheim Convention Center in Southern California.

The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) is a non-profit that was founded in 1901.

Anaheim was founded in 1857 by German immigrants as the Anaheim Colony. The heim (home) by the Santa Ana river. By 1870 the area had “scores of vineyards” and 47 wineries. A grape disease in the 1880s forced farmers to switch to orange growing, which lasted until the mid 1950s. Which is also when Disneyland opened.

Ninety years ago, in 1928, Disney released its first major film with fully synchronized sound; Steamboat Willie. Look how far we have come?

The Hollywood Sign

The news about putting another sign on Mount Lee, on the Valley side, made me think of my song from my 1994 album, One Moment in Time – The Hollywood Sign.

Written, performed and recorded by John Jones ©1995.

And then there is this live version from the MP3 show at the Troubador…

Stuart Bliss, the movie, was written and directed by Neil Grieve, with cinematography by Jens Sturup.

I composed the music, with a lot of direction from Neil!

Here is a decent copy of Stuart Bliss the movie. From 1997!

Well, it’s what none of you were asking for, but I did it anyway!

Get A Dog was written during the summer of 2002. It appears on my black n white album.

In Los Angeles, if you need to keep sane; Get A Dog!

I’m always falling for people with cuddly dogs…

Here is my homemade video. Please make your own versions!

Making Music Magic Panel at PopCon LA 2012

July 7th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Thanks to Steven Swimmer for inviting me to be a part of such a brilliant panel discussion about film music for PopCon LA.

It was amazing to meet and hear the views of such an accomplished group of human beings!

Richard Gibbs – legendary film & tv  composer and ex-Oingo Boingo member, and “the only person photographed in both Keyboard magazine and Surfer magazine”.

MJ Mynarski “is a contemporary film composer who hates to write about himself in the 3rd person”.

Anna Granucci is an actress, director, music supervisor, and film producer.

Sean Fernald, who worked on Liberty and the Wedding Album for Duran Duran when he was at Capitol Records, and who signed Marina V after seeing her at our JJ Song Salon.

David Weitzman, Senior Business Director for my old friends Robert Ott and Michael McCarty of Toronto’s Olé, who has worked for MTV, E!, NBC, Paramount, WB…
