My Sad Times
Douglas was only 49!
Aside from my over use of the title from my favourite of his book's; So long, and thanks for all the Fish, the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy was one of the masterpieces of 20th Century Fiction, Radio and Television.
Thanks goodness he was a prolific man and left us with a very large body of comedic social comment to enjoy well past our own demise.
Personally, I have felt that the great mammals of the Sea were most correct in their assessment of Mankind and all it had done for their planet Earth and it's many other inhabitants.
When asked if they had anything to say to the Human Race after spending million's of years stranded on Earth, the Whales replied "So long, and thanks for all the fish", not being able to think of anything good to say about us...
It's Human Beings like Douglas Adams that give us hope that there will be something good to say about us in the future.
"So long and thanks for all the books" - Stephen Fry, London Observer.
By great coincidence, and just a day before his death, the minor planet centre of the International Astronomical Union circulated a name for asteroid 18610, discovered in 1998.
They called it Arthurdent.
I know Douglas had a towel with him when he was last seen on Earth...
