My Times
If you're reading this, then you know that the biggest news is this site! At the moment it's still a temporary home, but I trust you'll be able to find me here when you so choose to visit.
The reason I have this site is I don't have a permanent home in the world, and I feel I need somewhere to act as my "storefront" for what I do. It's sort of my virtual office.
If you are looking for a music producer, you can learn more about me at your leisure. It feels good to know that I don't have to be "home" for anyone to contact me.
Dan Hill
I've just finished a fantastic week with Dan Hill. I haven't seen Dan in years, and when he called last week it was a great surprise.
Dan has been running his own record company, putting out his records, and doing very well with many other artists covering his songs.
We've started a few songs for his new album, which I think comes out toward the end of the year.
If you're not familiar with Dans' work, he is one of the great singer songwriters of our times He has a very deep passion for music and life, which comes out in his songwriting and in his beautiful voice.
Although he has been very successful over the years, I think he should be known to a larger audience, and I hope that I can help to achieve that through our production.
Unlike some artists that work in his field, Dan has something very special that those of us that know him are well aware of.
I'll keep you posted.
Solo Album?
Over the past 6 months I've been going through the last 20 years of my songwriting. I've been trying to find the gold I've missed, being too busy working on other peoples songs. I've found I have more than enough material for a couple of albums. I'm now trying to figure out who I am in terms of my musical style.
I have written songs from soft Beatle types to hard Rockin numbers. Should I make an easy listening record, or should it be "balls to the wall"? My experience tells me that mixing the very wide variety of styles that I write would be fine if I only want the record to be a demonstration of my artistic ambitions, but, I want to make the kind of album I would want to buy. I guess there is a compromise somewhere. Before the year is out I will have it finished.
Steve Churchyard, the man who keeps England alive in California, will be producing & engineering. Steve as you may know, was also an AIR Studios graduate. He worked with Emerick & Chris Thomas & George Martin & Paul MCartney & The Pretenders & INXS and hundreds of others before crossing the pond in the 80's. His credits as an Engineer are amazing. He has a great feel for a wide variety of music and I am one of his biggest fans. So, we'll have no excuse really, will we?
Mick Fleetwood
I'm waiting for Mick to finish the summer Fleetwood Mac tour, so he & I can get down to finishing his solo album. He gave me a box full of tapes from Africa that we are going to try and let the world hear!
Look out for the new Fleetwood Mac Album, which will be out in September.
Europe
Over the next few weeks I'll be hooking up with Julian Lennon as well as Nick & Simon from Duran Duran.
Julian & I have a few songs started, which I hope will be finished by the time he starts recording an album.
I hope I'll get to work with him on the album in some capacity or other.(teaboy?)
Hey, maybe then Val Azzoli will return my phone calls. (Val was my publisher in Toronto when I was a teenager.)
Duran Duran
Duran have started their new album. They have a number of songs on tape. I don't know wether I will be working on the record as of yet. I certainly hope so!
Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed reading this. I'll try to keep this "page" changing. All the best to you all in your endeavors.
