AJr has completed the move with his family and colleagues to Los Angeles from Boston, and is now fully ensconced in his new room at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. The hit of the evening was AJ‘s new album; Dreaming in Subtitles.

The other night a celebration was held, and AJ and I managed to sneak a little pic of the two ex-Duran Duran-ites in the big control room on Santa Monica Boulevard. We’ll look for a photo of us both looking at the same camera…

In a brilliant attempt at getting the music out of the box, an afternoon was spent last week with Tommy Vicari at LAFX Studio in North Hollywood, mixing the next Meninos & Friends single for Music is Hope Foundation, through the studio’s beautiful API console, with it’s Neve Flying Faders.

Nash the Slash – R.I.P.

A great influence, on many of us, has passed away. Nash the Slash is no more!

Long Live Nash the Slash!

From the Worth’s basement on Bayview avenue listening to Clear rehearse, to his time with the Canadian band FM, with my former bandmate, Cameron Hawkins, we crossed many paths.
Nash the Slash was a master musician and innovator. A true rebel without a cause. I’m not sure he could be born today… R.I.P. Jeff Plewman.

What a grand way to say hello to the community! Bravo Syn!

Nick and Norico Wood led the celebration at Troika on La Brea avenue in Los Angeles, California.

And who in their right mind wouldn't enjoy an open barrel of Saki from Japan?

These Strange Times – Ray Kennedy

Between the dark and the light.
I was looking for a video of a song that I worked on with Mick Fleetwood and Ray Kennedy, to remember the feeling of those days in the 1990’s, in the Hollywood Hills, and I found that my friend Ray had passed away back in February.
Rest in Peace Ray. We had some great times and great laughs together!

More Hollywood ASCAP Expo

I had a great time at the ASCAP Expo in Hollywood this year!

I got to hang out with old friend and colleague, producer/writer/musician, Rick Hahn!
Rick is doing well, and looking great! We won Grammy’s for producing Dan Hill‘s song, Seduces Me, for Celine Dion, back in the 1990’s! We also worked together on Portrait of a Groove for Bluezeum at my old studio in the Hollywood Dell.

Here are more photos from this year’s ASCAP Expo in Hollywood.

I spent three days last week commuting to Hollywood for this year’s ASCAP Expo at Leows Hollywood Hotel.

And what a pleasure it was to hang out with my friend Frank Oglethorpe, at the Prism Sound/Maselec booth, and with next door neighbors, Jeanne Nooney and Winn Krozack, of PRS Guitars! Check out the panels and speakers on ASCAP’s news page.

Marquis de Sunset 50th (2013)

When I first visited Los Angeles, I stayed at the Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood. Grant Black brought me from London to take meetings with record companies because of Ordinary World’s success in North America. I met Chris Evans and Michael Palin, who were headlining at the pool, on my first day.

This past November the Sunset Marquis was celebrating 50 years, and Julian Lennon and Steven Tyler were the headliners by the swimming pool!

I camera’d this video of their performance of their song Someday.

John Burgess Music Production, 1959-1966

I found a few tracks from Adam Faith, Freddie and the Dreamer’s and Manfred Mann, that John Burgess produced. This was really groundbreaking music in it’s day, and influential around the world. Where would the Doors be without Manfred Mann?
What magic did John Burgess and George Martin have?
