A Memorial Palm Springs Holiday

May 29th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Back in Los Angeles after a Memorial day weekend spent in Palm Springs California. Wonderful weather and a great family time, punctuated by Kim’s birthday!

The only casualty of the weekend was my left ear, clogged from driving with the window open and spending too much time in the swimming pool!

Here  are some photos.

1975 meets 1928 - the old Porsche 914 and the old El Mirador Hotel

Today the El Mirador Hotel is the Desert Regional Medical Center . Once it was a magnificent old hotel!

Looking out the balcony at indigenous California palm trees and the San Jacinto Mountains

No mystery about California Palm trees or San Jacinto.

A young designer snaps John sunbathing by the pool and covers him up for the photo!

The Harley glasses provide the finishing touch to this artistic portrait of a pool hooligan by a very  young and creative mind.

The pool at night!

The old section of Palm Springs along Main Street has always had a sense of humour to go along with it’s kistch!

Stories From an Undeclared War (documentary)

Sunday night, at the Newport Film Festival, we saw a new documentary about the Freedom Writers Diary, “a collection of journal entries written by 150 at-risk students from Long Beach, California, who were once considered ‘unteachable’. Encouraged by teacher, Erin Gruwall, and inspired by Anne Frank, the students discovered a new way of expression and began to care more about history, humanity, and perhaps, most importantly, their futures.”

This incredible story was helped to reality by our Music is Hope Foundation president John Tu.
