2010 started with a visit to Anaheim for the largest music store on earth known as the NAMM show. Anaheim was founded by German immigrants next to the Santa Ana river in Southern California in the 1850’s. Today it’s better known as the home of another old German invention, Disneyland. (more on that at a later date)
If you thought the rock and roll roadie look was confined to touring band employees you would have been mighty surprised to find yourself at a multi-age Roadie Convention. You could swear Gene Simmons just walked past you for the 10th time.
What a freak show!
Happy Birthday to Sean Halley (right) of Digidesign, seen here with jj and Derek from GC Pro and Jeremy Stappard of Apogee (not shown).
Along the way i ran into Steve Cooke & son, and the lovely Sandra. (Steve is playing at the Hollywood Renaisance on Thursday the 21st of January (tomorrow)).
The main event was Sabian Live at the Sheraton. After decent sets from Chad Smith and Terry Bozzio, Steve Ferrone took to the stage with music director and guitar legend Steve Postell and a host of special guests including Jeff Pevar, Lee Sklar, Bernard Fowler, Alex Ligertwood and many others. A very funky time was had by all! Here is a video from this great show:
Richard Martinez and yours truly were able to find a seat at stage left with Sabian wonderwoman Shirleen thanks to our host Chris Stankee.
I’ll leave the final word to Richard.
