Deane Cameron at the Junos

What a blast it was to be in Toronto last night for Deane Cameron’s Special Achievement Juno Award.
Deane was very special to me in my early days in Toronto. He was also very special to almost everyone else too!
Last night EMI Canada hosted a celebration for him at the Masonic Temple on Davenport in downtown Toronto.
The highlight acts who played for Deane were Glass Tiger, Helix, Buffy Sainte Marie and Serena Ryder. Everyone else was wonderful too!
Other than Deane, if I had to pick any one else who was most important in my early career it would be Frank Davies. And last night he was there with another very important person in many of our lives, Rupert Perry CBE.
What a blast! Congratulations Deane and thanks to Sam Reid for being Sam Reid!

I was happy to join the judges for this years Hollywood Rotary Club Music Awards at Hollywood High School on Saturday.
Along with Yanni violinist Benedikt Brydern and RC of H President Melody St. John, we enjoyed the many talented musicians on offer.
Ultimately winners had to be chosen. The others were all encouraged to come back next year! We also thanked music teacher Stormy Sacks for his help.
Here are the winners:

Early word from Japan – Syn and Nick Wood – Junya
March 11th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink
I was listening to a new mix that Junya had just finished for Nick Wood‘s new album when the 8.9 earthquake struck North Eastern Japan last evening Los Angeles time. Although we lost contact for quite a while, I stayed awake to make sure that everyone was alright at Syn. By 3 AM I went bed after a Skype chat with Junya assured me everyone was safe. I don’t know if he was able to get home because transportation had stopped, but Nick was able to drive home, although I have not heard from him today.
I can only hope and pray for everyone effected by this extreme event. All of us in Los Angeles are feeling extra uneasy as we have increased fear and thoughts of our own future quakes.
